About me
I grew up in Cornwall in the UK spending as much time as I could outdoors, camping, fishing, cycling, swimming etc… Skills that have stayed with me and play a strong part in terms of what I consider valuable ways to spend my free time.
I was interested in the creative fields from a young age, and studied Art and Design at college before moving more towards media arts and photography at university.
My masters in Service Design was my first introduction to design thinking and user centred design, and above all this is now my field of interest. I believe that design is problem solving, and based on research and collaboration has the potential to improve peoples lives.
Skills
My masters focused on multidisciplinary collaboration, using techniques such as shadowing, interviews, card sorting, workshops, brainstorming and co-creation. Working in UX, many of the same skills and techniques are vital to the success of any project.
My strongest skill as a designer is my ability to define solutions based on user empathy, and to champion the importance of a user centric approach within the various teams I am a part of. I am experienced and enjoy working in multidisciplinary teams across various projects simultaneously, from definition, design, usability testing and launch.

idealista
Oct 2013 – March 2019
UX/UI Designer
My role was to both iterate and improve the product and services that idealista currently had, but to also identify and drive new projects which I felt would benefit the user. I used tools such as data analytics, Hotjar and A/B testing along side user interviews and usability testing as the foundation for our design decisions.
In terms of development we worked within small agile teams (myself and 5 developers), with daily scrums, two week sprints and using constant communication to try and keep documentation to a minimum. I was also in regular contact with the Marketing, SEO, Business teams and the internal call centres.

Tom has been an absolute pleasure to work with throughout our Nando’s project. He has shown fantastic ownership over his work. It was really great to see him voice his opinions and bring his insights to the table when we were in our most recent Nando’s workshop.
Tom’s work is meticulous. He’s great at saying when he doesn’t know instead of plugging on and delivering something of less value. Everyone on the project team has been incredibly impressed by his level of perfectionism and his conscientious nature on this project, regularly going above and beyond the call of duty and doing extra. Our client has also been blown away by Tom’s rigour, which is really lovely.
Tom has been great to work with, really obliging and helpful. We couldn’t have done it without him. Really.

Tom very much took ownership of the workshop by helping with formulating the agenda and taking lead on the day and driving out the deliverables that he wanted in order to go away and create sketches for the page.
He provided valuable input to ensure that the brainstorming session ran smoothly and the team got the most out of it that they could, given the tight timescales.
Tom was really supportive in revising his sketches in line with the client’s continual feedback! He spent a lot of additional time ensuring that the sketches were exactly what the client wanted and was really proactive in coming across to show us his updates on an adhoc basis to get our feedback and ensure that we were all happy with the updates.
Tom delivered on time and to a high standard for this project. He was also really proactive and wanted to attend all meetings for this project and also meetings after he had delivered the sketches, to see how the page progressed throughout design and build.
We had really positive feedback from the client in terms of the UX and design of the page, so he did a great job!
